Private AI chat with GPT, Claude and Gemini

Private AI chat: no training on your conversations, zero-data-retention provider routes, incognito chats and self-service deletion. Read the limits as well.

What private should mean

Every AI product has a privacy page. Five questions separate commitments from marketing, and they are worth asking of any chat app, including this one. Is your chat used for training, by default? A setting you have to find is not the same as a policy. Does the model provider that generates the answer keep your prompt? Zero Data Retention (ZDR) routes mean it does not store prompts and outputs after responding. Can you keep a conversation out of your history, and how long does temporary server storage last? Can you export and delete your own data without opening a support ticket? Are the companies that touch your data published, and is the data encrypted in transit and at rest? There is a sixth, honest criterion: capability. A model running on your own computer can keep inference local; its capabilities depend on the model and your hardware. Decide what you are protecting against before you choose.

What Quad commits to

Training on your chats (Quad Chat: Never, on any plan, free included. There is no setting to find.). Provider retention (Quad Chat: Chats route through zero-data-retention provider routes where the provider offers one, called the Private Lane.). Unsaved chats (Quad Chat: Incognito chats stay out of your history. Temporary chat data is deleted from our servers within an hour. New file uploads are turned off.). Export and deletion (Quad Chat: Self-service from settings.). Subprocessors and encryption (Quad Chat: A published subprocessor list; encryption in transit and at rest.). Quad also does not sell personal information. Guest chat needs no sign-up, so you can try a question without creating an account.

How the Private Lane works, and when you leave it

Not every model provider offers a zero-data-retention route. When a model does, Quad uses it, and that is the Private Lane. When a model has no ZDR route, and when you use Image Studio, Quad asks for a one-time Standard Lane confirmation so you always know when your prompt leaves the Private Lane. Each model page says which lane that model uses. The practical rule: if the content is sensitive, choose a model that runs on the Private Lane, and decline the Standard Lane prompt when it appears.

Where privacy stops

The model you choose receives your prompt and attached text. Privacy is about what happens after: retention and training, not whether the provider sees the request. Web search sends your query to search providers. Turn it off for private questions. Quad is a newer company than the large AI vendors. Read the policies and the subprocessor list as you would for any vendor, and ask for current security documentation if your organization requires it. Incognito protects your history. It does not hide anything from your employer, your device or a shared screen. Nothing here is legal or compliance advice. Regulated data, such as health records, needs a review against your own obligations before it goes into any AI tool.

When another option is stronger

Quad's guide to private AI chat apps compares products on the same five questions, with details as of its publication. Three honest conclusions carry over to this page. If nothing may leave your machine, run a local model with a tool such as Ollama, LM Studio or Jan, and choose a model your hardware can run. If you want a private question box with no account at all, DuckDuckGo AI Chat is built for that and keeps history on your device. If your company has standardized on one vendor's business tier, its contractual commitments may matter more than any consumer setting. Quad suits people who want the latest GPT, Claude and Gemini models, side by side, with no-training as the default and a clear line between its Private Lane and everything else. Our desktop agent keeps projects and chats stored locally on your computer, while prompts still go to the model you select. The desktop agent page explains that split.

Frequently asked questions

Does Quad train AI models on my chats?

No. Quad does not use your conversations or files to train its own models, on any plan, and there is no setting you have to find to opt out.

What is the Private Lane?

The Private Lane is Quad's name for chats routed through zero-data-retention provider routes, where the provider does not store prompts and outputs after responding. Models without such a route, and Image Studio, ask for a one-time Standard Lane confirmation.

Can I chat without saving the conversation to my history?

Yes. Incognito chats are not saved to your history. Temporary chat data is deleted from our servers within an hour. New file uploads are turned off, though you can attach files already in your library.

Can I delete my data myself?

Yes. You can export and delete your chats from settings without contacting support. See the delete-account page for removing the whole account.

Is Quad more private than ChatGPT?

Quad's default is no training on any plan. ChatGPT's consumer plans can use conversations to improve models unless you opt out, according to Quad's September 2026 comparison, so check OpenAI's current policy. The two differ in default settings. With any hosted AI, the model provider that answers still sees your prompt.

Who can see my chats at Quad?

Your chats are stored to provide the product, encrypted in transit and at rest, with access restricted by role. Team admins cannot read members' conversations. The subprocessor list names the providers that handle infrastructure and inference.
