An AI spreadsheet generator with live formulas, charts and Excel export

Describe a budget, tracker or comparison and Quad builds a real sheet with working formulas and charts. Edit it with the AI, then export to Excel or CSV.

A sheet, not a table in a chat bubble

Ask for "a monthly budget with categories, planned and actual spend, and the difference" and Quad opens a sheet next to the conversation. The totals are formulas, not typed numbers, so when you change a value the rest updates. Rows that go over budget can be marked, and a chart can track planned against actual. From there you can edit cells yourself like any spreadsheet, or keep asking. "Add a savings tab", "sort by overspend" and "chart this by month" change the same file rather than producing a new copy.

What the sheet editor supports

Formulas (What you get: 59 functions, including SUM, AVERAGEIFS, VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX and MATCH, IF and IFERROR, TEXT and date functions). Charts (What you get: Bar, line, area and pie, up to 8 per sheet). Size (What you get: Up to 12 tabs, 2,000 rows and 60 columns per tab). Import (What you get: CSV and TSV files, and Excel workbooks (.xlsx, .xls, .ods), each sheet as a tab). Export (What you get: Excel (.xlsx), CSV for the current tab, a zip of CSVs for every tab, or a Markdown table). Templates (What you get: Budget, task tracker, comparison matrix, sales pipeline, habit tracker or blank). Those limits suit planning sheets, trackers and small datasets. For tens of thousands of rows or pivot-heavy analysis, Excel or a database remains the right tool, and you can start the structure here and export it.

Sheets people ask for most

A household or project budget with planned, actual and variance columns. A task tracker with status, owner and due date, and a chart of tasks by status. A comparison matrix that scores vendors, apartments or job offers on weighted criteria. A sales pipeline with deal values by stage. A cleanup of a messy CSV. Import it and ask the AI to split names, fix dates and remove duplicates. Figures pulled out of a PDF report, laid out as a sheet you can check against the source.

Working with your own data

You do not have to start from a blank prompt. Import a CSV export from your bank, a project tool or a survey, and each file arrives as a tab, with a header row bolded and frozen when one is found. Then ask in plain words for total spending by category, a flag on anything over a limit or a chart of the last six months. The AI writes the formulas into the sheet, so you can click any cell and see how a number was calculated. Responses from a Quad form can open straight into a new sheet in the same way, which turns a survey into a chart in two steps.

Which model to ask

Sheets work on every plan, Free included, once you have an account. GPT-6 Luna and Claude Haiku 5.5 handle everyday budgets and trackers on Free. For a model with many interacting formulas, a stronger reasoning model such as GPT-6.1 Sol or Claude Sonnet 5.5 on Pro tends to need fewer fixes. We have not benchmarked them on spreadsheets, so try the cheaper model first. Whatever the model, check the formulas in the cells that matter. The AI writes them, and a wrong range in one total is easy to miss.

What it does not do

It is not a live connection to Google Sheets or Excel. You export a file, and edits after that happen in the other app. It is not built for very large datasets. The size limits above are firm. Macros and pivot tables are not supported. Sheets are part of signed-in accounts. Guest chats without an account cannot create them.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI create a spreadsheet for me?

Yes. In Quad you describe what you need and it builds a sheet with working formulas, formatting and charts in an editor beside the chat. You can keep editing it with the AI or by hand, then export it.

Can I download the AI spreadsheet as an Excel file?

Yes. Sheets export to Excel (.xlsx), to CSV for one tab, to a zip of CSV files for every tab, or copy as a Markdown table.

Do the formulas actually work?

Yes. Cells hold real formulas from a set of 59 functions, including SUMIFS, XLOOKUP and IFERROR, and they recalculate when values change. Check important totals, because the AI can pick the wrong range.

Is there a free AI spreadsheet generator?

Quad's Free plan includes sheets with a free account and no credit card. Building one uses your monthly credits like any other request, and lower-cost models spend fewer of them.

Can I import my own Excel or CSV file?

Yes. You can import CSV, TSV and Excel files (.xlsx, .xls, .ods), and each worksheet becomes a tab you can edit or ask the AI to clean up.
